General G1G2 Connection Problems/Solutions General:: Note the software will not connect to other peers on the internet if you are in an intranet environment (like maybe at your company) where you cannot control the firewall's permissions. Also, you may experience a connection problem if you are using a home network with a router. The software is designed for home use by DIRECT connection to DSL, Cable MODEM, or DIALUP MODEM. You should also make sure your firewall is allowing the software access as a server to the internet. If using Windows XP , make sure you are only using ONE firewall. If the Windows XP firewall AND another firewall is in use as well (say Zone Alarm), you could experience a connection problem. Dialup connections may experience loss of connections because peers prefer to connect to computers using a broadband connection to speed up downloads. A software firewall like the free version of Zone Alarm should work fine for your personal computer at home. Use of Virus detection software is strongly recommended for screening files while you download from ANY source.

Using Windows XP Service Pack 2 early released versions with G1G2 If you have updated your version of Windows XP SP2 since Jun 2005 you should not have the connection problems talked about below. You should UPDATE your version of Windows XP SP 2 immediately to avoid the TCP issues that were only in early releases of SP2. If you still have connection problems you are welcome to try the patch discussed below at your own risk. For Early Releases of Windows XP SP2 prior to Jun 2005 only. THE FOLLOWING PATCH IS AVAILABLE TO OVERIDE THE TCP LIMITATION IMPOSED BY MICROSOFT IN XP SP2 (IE.. CAN''T CONNECT TO OTHER PEERS . ) A programmer in Denmark (http://www.lvllord.de/ ) has come up with a solution to allow more than 10 TCPs with SP 2 and has a patch you can EXECUTE to alter the number of TCPs to 50 or 100. I suggest NO MORE than 100, which worked great!! CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO INSTALL THE XP SP 2 PATCH. XP will notice you changed the number of TCPs in the registry and ask you if you want to overide the change that was just made (XP security). Click Cancel for this option. If you don't, XP will change the TCP maximum connections right back to where it was (10 TCPs). You will have to reboot after making this change. THIS PROBEM HAS BEEN FIXED by Microsoft. |
